My first 100-miler. A beautiful fall drive to the site and a beautiful day.
I had driven over the day before. This scene made me gasp as I poked my head out of the tent in the morning.
Not a huge turnout as centuries go - perhaps two dozen riders.
The first half of the ride, around Owens Valley, was mostly flat.
A cattle drive passes our lunch stop at 55 miles. Smart riders called it a day here.
The choice - 21 miles back to the start-finish, or another 45 miles and 1,500 feet of climbing to complete the century.
